Effects of Clonidine, LSD and Methysergide on the Blood Pressure Elevation by Raising Intracranial Pressure

Abstract
1. The intracranial pressure(ICP) was raised by the extradural balloon method in urethane-anesthetized rabbits, and change of arterial blood pressure (BP) with change of ICP was studied.
2. In the control rabbit group raising ICP resulted in marked increase in BP.
3. After the administration of clonidine into the lateral ventricle or cisterna cerebellomedularis, BP elevation by raising ICP was significantly decreased.
4. After the administration of LSD and methysergide into the lateral ventricle, BP elevation by raising ICP was significantly decreased.
5. After the administration of phenoxybenzamine and regitine into the lateral ventricle, BP elevation by raising ICP was not affected.
6. The above results suggested that BP elevation by raising ICP was closely related with sympathetic outflow from the central nervous system.
